Linear FEM-based Light Field Calculation

An approach to radiance calculation of scenes of surfaces which are reflecting light, incident from extended anisotropic light sources, directional-diffusely or specularly is presented. The resulting light field is represented as a piecewise linear function over an adaptive, hierarchical cell decomposition of the linespace. Versions with exact and approximated visibility are worked out. The linear representation can be seen as a coherent representation of ray samplings, similar like beam tracing for traditional ray tracing. Zusammenfassung Es wird ein Verfahren zur Berechnung der Lichtstrahlung einer Szene aus Oberflächen vorgestellt, die Licht gerichtet-diffus oder spiegelnd reflektieren, das von anisotropen Lichtquellen einfällt. Das sich ergebende Lichtfeld wird durch stückweise lineare Funktionen über einer adaptiven, hierarchischen Zellzerlegung des Geradenraums dargestellt. Versionen mit exakter und approximierender Sichtbarkeit werden ausgearbeitet. Die lineare Darstellung kann als eine kohärente Repräsentation der Strahlabtastung verstanden werden, wie die Bündelverfolgung bei der traditionellen Bilderzeugung.
